Lightning data on this site is provided by a volunteer detection network. Strikes appear several seconds after they occur and carry position uncertainty measured in kilometers. Some strikes are missed entirely, and coverage varies substantially by region.

Do not rely on this site to decide whether it is safe to be outdoors. Follow the guidance of your national weather service. The operative safety rule is simple and does not require any app: if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck, and you should go inside.

Thunder arrival times are calculated estimates based on modelled atmospheric conditions. While the site uses a precise speed-of-sound equation and live weather data, the underlying strike position carries error that dominates the result. Displayed uncertainty ranges are themselves estimates. No guarantee of accuracy is given or implied.

You may use this site for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not scrape, republish or resell the data streams it consumes; the upstream sources have their own terms, and the lightning data in particular is provided by volunteers for non-commercial use.

You may not attempt to disrupt the service, circumvent rate limits, or use automated tools to place unreasonable load on this site or the third-party services it depends on.

Lightning data is supplied by Blitzortung.org contributors, weather by Open-Meteo, and map tiles derive from OpenStreetMap data. Each is subject to its own license and terms. This site does not claim ownership of that data and makes no warranty about it.

This site may display third-party advertising. Advertisements are served by external networks and their content is not endorsed by, or under the editorial control of, this site.
